Parents: do you know where your children are?

(Because they very well may be beating another girl so that they can post it on youtube... WTF?!)

Sorry to post videos two days in a row, i just had no idea what to say about this (thanks Jess for sending me the story)

That's terribly disturbing, not to mention moronic. What on earth makes someone think that's a good idea? At all, ever but let alone taping it for the entire world...

They need a special sub-category of Darwin Awards for people who do this. The most appalling one I've heard of is the rape video but this is definitely up there - sad to say it seems to be a growing trend.
Argh!

Reminds me of that Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times"
Looks like we do, hey?

This is so depressing. Speechless.

Yes, that is disgusting. I find most forms of violence to be appalling, but the reasoning (and I hate to associate the word "reason" with this crime) behind it is absolutely...yes, moronic.

The sad thing is that something similar to this happened in my hometown. And one of the girls' mother got involved.

Why is being popular on the internet a strong enough motivation to provoke violence? I really can't wrap my mind around that one...

A little bit of karma in this senseless and disturbing incident...

Funny how the technology that has defined our generation looks to be its downfall...

I just heard the girls in the video are being charged as adults ranging from kidnapping to assault. Good.

The whole violence thing is disturbing, it always is. but what is effecting me more about this particular scenerio, is that these appear to be girls from middle class homes. When I see gang violence (which this resembles) I tend to view the poverty/neglect scenerio as a likely factor. Not so here? Doesn't mean there aren't risk factors present in these girls' backgrounds. Likely there are (family violence? dad beating on mom?) But.. all four or five of the girls involved? Unlikely, right? So it is just dumbfounding that girls who appear to have at least material advantages are acting so violently. And all over myspace comments?!? I want to grab my kids and run for the internet free hills.

...or maybe we're just use to dismissing middle class kids' aggression as kids being kids and not GANG VIOLENCE. *gasp*

I sure hope I never dismiss this kind of violence as "kids being kids." But I do think, had I heard about this instead of seen it? I might have thought, "cat fight? yeah, so what?" Seeing this firsthand is an eye opener.

I still don't know the full facts. What crime is the cheerleader accused of to earn this attack?
